The Seahawks’ Defense Is Ahead Of Its Offense
This week our Chris Lee wrote about what big picture takeaways came from the Seahawks’ loss to the Rams last week.
Even though the Seahawks lost, the defense showed its legitimacy in a big way, pressuring Matthew Stafford on 46% of his dropbacks and finishing with an on-target percentage 11 points below his season average.
The Seahawks also allowed only 4 yards on 6 pass attempts when the Rams used 13 personnel. The Seahawks numbers when in nickel are best in the league when it comes to passes defensed, pressures, and sacks. When the Rams ran out of 13, the Seahawks held them in check but for one big play (15 yards on 10 rushes otherwise). There’s a lot to like about the Seahawks defense.
But as Chris wrote “In order for the Seahawks to truly be taken seriously and considered among the league’s elite, they must prove that they can dictate the terms on offense.”
And the Seahawks aren’t there yet. They are a low-end team when it comes to rushing, even against Dime defenses. And Sam Darnold hasn’t shown he’s ready for prime time this season.
Chris has lots more details in his article. Be sure to give it a read.

Travis Kelce is averaging 7.0 YAC per reception this season, 4th highest among regular tight ends per @sportsinfosolutions.com. He has more than reversed what looked like an age-related declining trend. He's averaging his highest YAC since a decade ago in 2016 (7.7).
