All-American and All-Conference Selections

For those unaware SIS tracks college football data as intensely as it does the NFL. A team of dedicated Data Scouts watch every play of every game, noting the many different things that happen on the field. Our R&D team creates the stats to evaluate those players and determine which players excel or struggle in certain skill-based areas.

At the end of the season that work allows us to determine our All-American and All-Conference teams via a vote and statistical analysis. Our selections don’t always jibe with conventional wisdom, and that’s ok. Sometimes our data tracking catches things that are difficult to observe from watching a game without looking for specific details. We like being able to reward players for that kind of excellence.

With all that in mind, here are our 2025 All-American 1st-Team honorees:

Who Will Win Protector Of The Year?

With regards to what we talked about for All-Americans, we can provide an example with offensive linemen. The NFL is awarding its first Protector of the Year award this year and our Anthony Haage took a look at the frontrunners. Evaluating offensive linemen requires studying the details.

Our metrics consider things like which blockers a run went behind and the balance of yards before and after contact. For passing, we consider the dropback time and how much time the quarterback has to operate. Additionally, we consider blown blocks, which are cases in which a defender physically beats a blocker and disrupts a play within a few seconds of the snap.

Considering all of those factors, we’ve pegged the leading candidate for Protector of the Year as Bears guard Joe Thuney, though he’s not the only one on that team contending, given that multiple linemen have helped Caleb Williams drop his sack rate by more than half in 2025.

The article below has the details on who the other top contenders are. Give it a read if you’re interested in learning more about evaluating the ‘in the trenches’ aspect of the sport.
