Scouts vs Stats: Top 10 Quarterbacks

Melissa Tamez/Icon Sportswire

It’s that point in the offseason in which we bring back one of our staple features, Scouts vs Stats. This is a 2-on-2 debate and discussion on The Off The Charts Football Podcast about where NFL players rank in various Top 10 lists

Our CEO (and ex-NFL scout) Matt Manocherian and one of the members of our R&D team, Bryce Rossler, jointly rank the players as scouts would. Two of the other members of our R&D team, James Weaver and our VP of football analytics, Alex Vigderman rank the players using a predetermined formula from stats we’ve tracked.

This week’s episode focuses on the top 10 NFL quarterbacks. We’ll give you a little tease of the rankings below.

Scouts Ranking

Stats Ranking

1. A different player than Stats’ picked

2. A player who didn’t make the Scouts’ list

3. Lamar Jackson

4. Jordan Love

5. Dak Prescott

6. Joe Burrow

7. Matthew Stafford

8. Bo Nix

9. C.J. Stroud

10. Jayden Daniels

Here are three quotes and we’ll leave it to you to guess who they’re referring to.

“This is a seven-on-seven passer, and he looks extremely good any time he is not disrupted in any, any type of way … Then he gets moved off his spot and bad things happen.”

“ He was very much an engine for a (redacted) team that overperformed their expectations going into last year. And I think he did a lot of that with pretty shoddy offensive line play and a suboptimal receiving core group. His omission is interesting because if he's not the engine there, I don't know who is.”

“With this player, I really worry about his long-term availability. There's a little bit of, like, Andrew Luck-type fear that I have about him. He's got the Jaxson Dart tendency to put himself in peril when it's really the most important thing for him not to be in peril.”

To get the full list and justifications for the selections from each group, you’ll want to listen to the podcast!
