Scouts vs Stats: Top 10 Offensive Players
(non-QB)

John Byrum/Icon Sportswire
Scouts vs Stats is back for another round on The Off The Charts Football Podcast, with our crew debating and discussing who the Top 10 offensive players (non-quarterbacks) in the NFL are.
Our CEO (and ex-NFL scout) Matt Manocherian and one of the members of our R&D team, Bryce Rossler, jointly rank the players as scouts would. Two of the other members of our R&D team, James Weaver. and our VP of football analytics, Alex Vigderman, rank the players using a predetermined formula from stats we’ve tracked.
We’ll give you a little tease of the rankings below.
Scouts Ranking | Stats Ranking |
1. A different player than Scouts’ picked | |
2. Penei Sewell | |
3. Jahmyr Gibbs | |
4. Tristan Wirfs | |
| 5. Jaxon Smith-Njigba |
| |
7. Creed Humphrey |
|
8. Trey McBride | |
9. Jahmyr Gibbs | |
10. Amon-Ra St. Brown | 10. A player the Scouts didn’t think belonged on the list |
Here are three quotes and we’ll leave it to you to guess who they’re referring to.
“ He's really as good as I've seen out there, short of Randy Moss maybe.”
“ I think what's most striking about his game is the balance. The contact balance, the ability to stay upright. The ability to like get hit and maintain momentum I think is, is what makes him really unique.”
“You can get him the ball, and it's basically like giving a handoff to your Derrick Henry-type running back after he's already gotten a first down. And that's why this guy just stacks value, whether it's Total Points, whether it's fantasy points. The situation that he's in along with his skill set is like a cheat code for creating a lot of value.”
To get the full lists of players and justifications for the selections from each group, you’ll want to listen to the podcast!
