Some Offensive Line Data Analysis
A couple of weeks ago on The Off The Charts Football Podcast, our crew dove into our pass rush data, separating pass rushers into clusters and analyzing the frequency and sequencing of moves.
This week they looked at another data set that goes hand-in-hand with that one. They focused on offensive line play and block type trends, and analyzed which kinds of blocks are most effective at handling certain rush moves and how the moves and block types interact overall.

Evaluating The Predictiveness of SIS Shots Data
We’ve had the opportunity to show off our basketball research recently and published something new this week. Our Chris Lee looked at whether our collection of shot data, garnered from college basketball charting the last several years, could predict NBA shooting performance.
Here’s what we found, in brief:
Making open shots in college is very predictive of overall NBA shooting success, solidifying a common assumption
Shots in the NBA are open more often than shots in college, likely owing to better passing and spacing
Comparing shots in the same area loses more because of sample size than it gains from evaluating apples-to-apples
If you see a lot of swishes, that’s good news
